A Hillsdale Treasure

This afternoon, I went to Mel's Diner, a little restaurant outside of Hillsdale, to photograph it for the Collegian. It turned out to be such a fun break to my afternoon.
After photographing this special place, I sat and talked to these men, who are regulars at Mel's, for over half an hour. The two on the left are brothers, and they are both Hillsdale grads. The one of the left is class of '59 and in the middle, class of '63. They told me that the man on the right is an electrician, which is why they call him "Sparky," and that he used to be the mayor of Jefferson. They sat at the table and told me about Hillsdale back in their day, asked me questions about my professors and classes, about what I'm learning, and made sure that I knew what a wonderful place this college is. It was such a wonderful time, and it brought renewed gratitude to my heart for this school. And for this small town. I plan on going back to Mel's one Saturday morning to eat breakfast. And to say hello to Joe and Bill.

I guess we'll have to go next time we're there. Do you think the food is good?
